This post will delve into my general training and fitness preparations. I'm spoiled because the Long Trail is a short distance away. I'm even more spoiled because my lovely girlfriend lives atop a nearby ski mountain with quick access to the trail. The Green Mountains have become my playground recently and they are an ideal place to train for a thru hike. I've been snowshoeing the Long Trail nearly every weekend and if I don't do that I've been snowboarding on the same mountain. It's all exercise right?
I walk about 5 mi/day to and from work with a pack each day. This is partially for training purposes and partially because driving up the aforementioned ski mountain recently killed my car. All the engine seals and my power steering rack began leaking after descending the mountain one morning after some wild temperature fluctuations. It's a 1996, so I'm not sinking any more money into it and I don't have the time to fix these issues myself. Regardless, it's a great excuse to walk more often and it's getting me into the slow moving mentality that I must fully embrace to succeed this summer.
I also boulder at a nearby rock gym 2-3 times per week and I'm certain this core strengthening will help me in some way.
